Meet the people, communities, and initiatives that drive the restoration of Planet Earth (Kenya). From securing water and improving community health to restoring ecosystems and building resilient ECDE centers, read our stories to learn about how community-based initiatives are making our communities healthier, greener, and more resilient.
Where there is limited water available in the rural areas, the distance that people have to travel to get water may pose health and livelihood risks for them as well as impact the education of children. By means of constructing sand dams and collecting rainwater through the roofs at low cost, we assist communities in harvesting rainwater throughout the year.
Restoration of nature is first done by ensuring that the people who rely on nature feel empowered. This can be achieved through community-based tree planting initiatives, natural afforestation and Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR). Through these activities, degraded lands are restored and trees and vegetation are restored as well.
Children form the basis of resilient communities. This is why we work with ECDE centers in offering environmental lessons and eco-solutions like solar lighting. By ensuring that there is a safer and greener environment for learning, we are instilling in our children the value of nature and the need for taking care of it.
